Ingredients

Marinated Beef:

  • flank, skirt, or flatiron steak

  • ¼ cup Chinese black vinegar or Ponzu

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • salt

  • 2 tbsp Stevia brown sugar

Black Pepper Sauce:

  • ¼ cup chili crisp oil

  • ¼ cup soy sauce

  • black pepper

  • onion powder

  • garlic powder

Stir Fry Components:

  • avocado oil

  • fresh garlic

  • shallots, finely diced

  • onion, thinly sliced

  • red bell peppers, thinly sliced

  • butter lettuce wraps (for serving)

Note: To make the black pepper sauce gluten-free, replace soy sauce with coconut aminos.

Instructions

1. Marinating the Beef

  • Begin by slicing the flank, skirt, or flatiron steak into thin strips.

  • In a bowl, combine Chinese black vinegar or Ponzu, a pinch of salt, and Stevia brown sugar to create a marinade.

  • Toss the beef strips in the marinade, ensuring each piece is well-coated.

  • Allow the beef to marinate for at least 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

2. Creating the Black Pepper Sauce

  • In a separate bowl, mix chili crisp oil, soy sauce, freshly ground black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Adjust quantities according to taste and set aside.

3. Stir-Fry the Components

  • Heat a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat and add avocado oil.

  • Add freshly diced shallots, stir-frying until aromatic.

  • Introduce thinly sliced onions and red bell peppers to the wok, cooking until they achieve a vibrant color and tender-crisp texture. Add your minced garlic last so it doesn’t burn.

  • Remove the stir-fry components from the wok and set them aside.

4. Searing the Marinated Beef

  • In the same wok, add a bit more avocado oil (if needed).

  • Sear the marinated beef strips over high heat until they are cooked to your desired level of doneness.

  • Once the beef is cooked, reintroduce the stir-fry components back into the wok.

5. Infusing with Black Pepper Sauce

  • Pour the prepared black pepper sauce over the beef and stir-fried veggies.

  • Toss everything together, ensuring the beef and vegetables are evenly coated with sauce.

  • Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to let the ingredients absorb the essence of the black pepper sauce.

6. Serve & Enjoy!

  • Spoon into butter lettuce leaves or serve over cauliflower rice.

  • Garnish with additional freshly ground black pepper and chili crisp oil, if desired.
